Dennis Kimetto. New world record. 2:02:57!!!!! Berlin Marathon. September 28, 2014.
There is an excellent small article on him in the October/November 2014 Running Times. He was a struggling subsistence farmer in Kenya until he happened to run past the great Geoffrey Mutai on a training run a couple of years ago. Mutai tracked him down, asked him to train with hiis group, and the rest, as they say, is history.
He won his first race in 2011, the Dubai Half Marathon. He followed that up with three more victories, including a 25K world record, and finished runner-up to Mutai in 2:04:16 at his marathon debut in Berlin. He went on to win marathons in Tokyo and Chicago, prior to today’s stellar triumph. A great success story.
sexy-triathletes asked: Get some swimming in there and you could do a triathlon. Have you ever thought about trying a tri?
I want to, I’m barely getting back in shape and I want to try new things. Some cross fit and swimming. I left my bike back home but I will be getting it in like a month. I want to do a tri after I finish college. Graduating and competing in cross and track is my main priority.
